The way this book holds my interest, is the way Ben is so interested in Sal and is always seeming to want to be close to her. When Ben touched her, I freaked out. I thought about if Sal's Dad found out about it, he would go crazy. Then Sal would have to never go outside if Ben was out.
RhiannonS, I agree with what you said, but you forgot to mention the young man that came to the door after they got the second note and how they saw him again at the drug store. I agree with you about Ben but I think you should have mentioned the young man.
What keeps my interest is the suspense when Ben try to touch Sal and when Phoebe freaks out when she saw the young man from earlier at the Drug Store. After the young man came to the door, the story became more suspenseful when Phoebe started thinking the man was a lunatic. I enjoyed that Phoebe's personality brings suspense to the story, she is the careful type, thinking every weird person is out to get her. It brings variety and suspense to the story.
My interest in the story is when Phoebe sees the young man at the drug store and she thinks he is a lunatic. Its kind of cool that she judges because it keeps the story more interesting but, one thing I don't like is that she doesn't know this person so she can't just judge him like that. Phoebe's wild imagination keeps the book more interesting.
The Arthur holds the readers interest by leaving untold mysteries and makes you want to keep reading to figure it out. He also doesn't give out all the information about the characters to make you read more.
I think the author holds our interest by making the grand parents disappear. This causes curiosity making us want to read on. I think the author used an appropriate technique for this scenario.
I think that the author holds the interest for me because she left me wondering what was going to happen next. I was left wondering how Sal's story was going to end. The thing that kept me most into the book was the way that she explains the characters and the way that you keep getting drawn into the book.

The thing that kept me most into the book was the way that she explains the characters and the way that you keep getting drawn into the book.
I think the author got my interest by describing what happened, but deceiving in such a way that I don't have words how to describe. And this is on of the most cheesy and really cool books I've read so far. The lunatic leaving notes and asking for Phoebe's mom, and how Ben get's so close to Sal. I think Ben has a little crush on Sal. Oh I'm just loving this book so far.
I think the book holds my interest because it has characters that are very weird around Sal. Ben is one of them because he touches her a lot and looks at her in such a weird way. I think also think he is a weird character because the author says that he has blackish eyes and it seems very weird. I also think the old lady is weird because she could tell how old Phoebe was even though she is blind. How could this be? Maybe it's some kind of like magic. I'm not so sure about the magic part it was just a guess.
I almost agree with you Johara, but maybe the reason people are so weird around her is because the town they live in might not have any big news often. When Sal came, they asked many questions like, "can you sit on your hair?". "is it naturally black like that?". Because like Sal said, all the girls hair style are short 'bobs' that were chin length. That makes me feel like the town hasn't gotten any people that moved there for the last, like 5 years.
I think that the author as gotten my interest by having nice, funny, creative people in the story. The author has described the setting of the book as a serene place. The book gets more and more interesting when we go inside the trail of who and why Sal's mother killed herself. What is also amazing is that a stranger is leaving notes in Phoebe's door way. The author has made this book one of my favorite books because of all the details it tells us as the readers.
What holds my interest is how that old blind woman guessed Phoebe's age just by touching her face. Also how that lunatic kept coming up to Phoebe's door and how Ben kept trying to touch Sal.
In the end of the selection the author held my interest when Ben was into Sal and he touches her. It got me startled about it. What would happen if her father found out? Or if her mother was with her. When they found out he was at the drug store and thought he was a lunatic. Also that the author leaves clues and makes want to read more to find out what they are.
The book holds my interest because Sal gets weird a lot when around Ben and I am interested to see what happens next with her dad and what her dad will do. I also think that the blind lady could tell Phoebe's age. It gets even more suspicious when they saw this weird guy in the drug store then thought he was a lunatic. In conclusion there are a lot of suspense happening and I am suspicious what is going to happen next.
At the end of the selection the reader hooks us up with a problem. The problem is that there is a weird stranger and Phoebe is judging him without even knowing him. On the other hand Sal is very worried about Margret who might've killed her husband although all the facts aren't proven true. Sal isn't worried as much because there is no piece of evidence that proves Margret kills although her last name means dead body. For Sal Margret is okay because she doesn't judge her, but she does seem suspicious.
The author makes the reader interested in what is going to happen next by making things between Sal and Ben no big deal in the beginning until they get close to each other in the store. Many people like romances and characters liking each other, so that would make the reader want to read and know more about what is going to happen later on. While in the store, Sal and Phoebe encounter the lunatic and the readers want to know if they're going to talk to him or say anything to him. Since he is a character that hasn't been formally introduced, readers will want to know why he's important to the story line.
The author holds the readers interest by having Sal and her grandparents stop at this celebration. Then Sal gets lost and can't find her grandma. Then she went looking to see if she could find the car but she couldn't. Then she starts wondering around the place trying to find her grandma.
What keeps the interest is that when Ben attempted to touch Sal it hold the interest by getting Phoebe to get scared. Phoebe got scared for the person they seen at the drug store and thought that man was lunatic, but it created drama for the story to see what will happen next. It brings something special at the end and want to see more.
The author holds the readers interest by using suspense in it and It keeps you saying "What will happen next?" because they see the creeper in the store, and they also say that Sal got lost and that held up a lot suspense.
The author holds the readers interest by using suspense in it and It keeps you saying "What will happen next?" because they see the creeper in the store, and they also say that Sal got lost and that held up a lot suspense.
The author also got my interest by leaving little mysteries and leaving the readers to think what's going to happen next. Just super duper cheesy. Oh, Yeah!
I agree with Alec N. that the story does have suspense. The bad part is that she doesn't know the young man so she can't judge him. The story would be better if she knew the young man and after she got to know him, then she could judge him.
What caught my attention was she left me excitedly waiting what was going to happen next. I was left wondering how Sal's amazing story was going to end. The thing that I really, really liked was in the book was the way that she explains the characters and the way that you keep getting interested into the book.
Something that caught my attention was that every time Sal is around Ben she feel weird because Ben is always touching her. Some thing else that caught my attention was that Whats gonna happen to her and Phoebe

ReplyDeleteThe thing that keeps my interest is the point in the book where they saw the potential lulunatic at the drug store. He might of saw them too.

ReplyDeleteWhat kinds of things are drawing you into the book? Is it the subtle romance between Ben and Sal or Phoebe seeing the lunatic in the store?

ReplyDeleteThe book doesn't hold my interest. It is to slow. All they are doing is telling a story while retracing her mother's trip.
